LCF considers grant applications only from organizations which provide services within the Columbus and Lowndes County area.  Organizations must either have federal status as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization or must have their application sponsored by an organization with such status.

LCF’s six areas of interest for grant awards are based on community input and priorities received during their Community Conversation. The areas are: education, crime, addiction, community engagement, poverty/social welfare, and the arts.  Projects which seek to improve quality of life within these six areas, while meeting the grant guidelines and requirements, have the best chance at a LCF award.

In addition, funding preference may be given to proposals which include items of permanence or those which create a long-term, positive impact within Columbus and Lowndes County communities.

LCF typically does not provide funding for salaries or everyday operational support to sustain programs or projects, i.e. facility rent or upkeep, electricity or other bills, etc.

Grant funds will be disbursed by December 31 following the monthly LCF's Board of Directors meeting. Grantees can expect to receive the funds within the first two weeks of January and may be invited to that month's LCF Board of Directors meeting to formally receive their awards.

LCF Grant recipients are required to complete a final report within one year of receiving the grant, by December 31.  Final reports must document how project monies were spent and reflect on the results of project implementation. They are required upon acceptance of any grant funds from LCF.
